foot plod atop forested leaf fodder

tuesday i took the pup and plunged into the near woods. chilly, but not totally debilitating if properly bundled.

it's not just a pedestrian passing with leaf fodder under foot that i need. i need the slow wheeled roll of entry. i go when the need seems indispersably dispersed. when i am off in my holding capacity and my fragments drift uncontrollably. the roll and gaited passage under thick treed canopy alters me, gathers my fragments for a moment. no. not even that, instead it allows me to let them drift without a regathering compulsion. the roll sooths the drift in the illusion of preparing for purpose. the physicality of the gaited fodder lead meandering always seems so really, so purposeful. it screams quiet whispers that this is exactly where i should be. i relax into it.

i go. i plod. i click, click. i sit. i post. i brush against the water cooler of the cyber realm. the dog demands i detach at least a moment from my portable tech tethering and glance about. i do. i am damn compliant. of course, she demands i detach from whatever it is i am doing no matter how noble, like napping in a meadow, hunkered down amongst the wind deflecting winter brittled blades where the sun warms this chilled moment. she demands with her lick and lather.

so though she is free to frolic, the leash a mere afterthought of forest rule compliance, she pulls it from my shouldered carriage purely to speak. let's leave now my human, let us venture on. she demands with her leash.

and so i do. for that moment the ungathered fragments hold together in the physicality of the passage. i wonder why i would think to leave, why my detethering holds such sway. my brain plows and mulls the fear that to vacate would just add to my list, would somehow discard a crucial gift. i ponder my untethered pup who so wants to be tethered not with leash but love. each day she asks me incessantly to remind her that we are tether. she demands her tethering. oh. oh. oh. i get it my pack animal pup so human in need.

the sun drops. i recall the practicality of the leave as the air drops from chill to dang cold. i make the brief powered roll to the hermitage and wait for a warmed day. in the skip of a few morns, it has not come yet. but my body is antsy with the need to make.

my materials await me. they beckon. they need. i need. i need the tether that physical making harnesses, holding me in the moment of nowness, just as the foot plod through the forrest does, just as the detethered tethering demands of my dog.

i learn to trust the untethered days. i am compelled to find peace in the making, in the writing, in the mentor ventures until my moments regather a new.

the day warms, the sun penetrates, the crystal icy snow transforms and flows in rivulets. i watch the hermitage weep from my butt plant within and am thankful for the warming. the chainsaw with sharpened blade calls knowing the winters reductions in leaf suspended fodder, biodemassed, appeals to these aging chica muscles.

fresh cut.
wasn't on my to do list for the day

but I did. bit of a ruff, no not a dog nipping at my heals, the other rough, ride but I enjoy it anyway though the small of my back is having a bit of a whinny conversation with the rest of my body.

I am not going to think about it.
I am not going to think about it
I am not going to think about it
I am not going to think about it

the fog is burned off
fields green
sky is bluing up
cattle are nuzzling
and I am returning to home depot
because I left with what the guy handed me, a female compression joint
pulled in drive not even debelted
knew I had to travel 30 more for
the male compression fitting
oh undisclosed cursing and tears
stop thinking about it
focus on pretty drive
again

oh yes and i dropped my iphone in the toilet
perk - it was prior to use
oh yes and i drilled my finger with a phillips head drill bit
perk - i don't own a gun

oh yes and i hopped on my monogeared, fat tired sissy bike and road long and hard through the hills like a ten year old on the first day of summer with the wind in my hair and a helmet left behind because i figured what the heck!! and i couldn't check my stupid smart phone post midday toilet drop; it was the best afternoon ever.

oh yes...i got the compression fitting on and it's true, I HAVE A FUNCTIONING WATER HEATER
perk - i wont stink tomorrow!

it's a flowering tree but that's all I know

reminds me of a dogwood but not sure that is right. also looks like illustration of crabapple but leaf seems wrong since it has smooth edge. no idea.

my fig trees are leafing (these are definitely not my fig trees). the birds will defruit faster than they come to term.

the hermitage deer pod mostly ignore me

since neither am i scary nor a threat, they merely tilt their heads and flick an ear at my presence and then simply continue at their task. when they gather in extended groups, just one can lead them all in sudden flight, asses held high, tails taunt, at my mere head turn. they are much like people I've known. my extended deer pod flees the visible, but we, we flee the invisible. it is not the person I see people flee but instead the anger that stirs our own distorted sense of justice, fear that dwells in lost memories dancing at the hidden corners of our being, futures unvisioned--undreamed, pasts unresolved pushing into our tomorrows, and incomplete knowledge, non-understanding guiding blindly our unseeing binary tunneled paths. I see people flee closing up, withholding, their compassion, friendship and mercy. we flee the invisible. zealot or not, fleeing each in our own habitual way.

stroll my hood

after a day of laughter. today was the beginning of mark making were I guide my students in breaking their writing habit. after 18 to 29 years of training the hand to hold a pencil, it is difficult to explore other mark making options because choking up on our pencils is so engrained. so I have them explore using their bodies for mark making with exercises that bust up the writing habit. we ended the day with students' arms wrapped around their large sketch pads waist and their other stroking it's back with a pencil, ending finally playing their pad like a musical instrument. needless to say I had 43 souls literal waltzing around the studio with silly grins of joy on their faces. got to love my job.

today was my first day to stroll my hood for any decent length of time cause grading and more grading has kept me into the night.

late afternoon I was trimming back the secret pathways along that invisible line between mine and theirs, a supposed property line on file at the courthouse. hidden away in the woods, flushed out a huge owl from one of my ancient hollowed out oaks. I didn't however see piglet or rue. earlier today i discovered some baby hawklings through their chatter and the sudden winged glide of the parental unit.

clearing a spot in the woods for material storage

that won't be visible from bulk of property or country lane. will have to translocate tubes already in site to this freshly cleared spot. hmmm. exercise.

ha! nine point nine more acres to go.

mulch that! ok well most of those acres, thank goodness, are wooded! my 100 buck baby tractor (mower) runs like a dream. some day if I feed and water it, it may grow up! more mower and chain saw lessons from dad! :)

turning

the subdued rich earthy hues flourish as the greens are slowly swallowed by the waning light with its crisp breath

the woods still drip and are saturated a few inches deep

I've never seen fungus spring up so quickly and vividly. little moisture and rot really begins. the drought dedicated limbs creak and moan with the surface moisture that clings. there is the snort. focused on the fungus I didn't notice the deer fifty feet away--holding still waiting for me to go away. I guess I've deluded the male with his threatening snort because I've gone back to the porch so they can feed. and so they do and so close.

Yay + thank you. it did

a smidgen of water still standing plus flow patterns amongst the needles and almost an instant greening. not that I am not grateful, but more please.
